This is a specimen of amber from Myanmar (Burma) in South East Asia. Amber is hardened sap from trees and is used for jewelry and scientific research. Inclusions are sometime found where plant or animal material has been captured in the sap before it hardens. This sample is from the cretaceous period which dates it and the captured plant and animal material to approximately 100 million years old and most likely extinct today.
