This outcrop of the late Ordovician Martinsburg Formation is located on Route 644 in Shenandoah County, about 20 feet above the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. GigaPan Stitch seems to have had some issues putting it together, which is frustrating. Still, there's a lot to be seen. At this outcrop, bedding is oriented 041°, 45° (right hand rule). Another way of putting that is that it strikes N41°E, and dips at 45° to the southeast. Cleavage is oriented 230°, 67° (right hand rule). If you prefer a quadrant-based attitude, then that's S50°W, and dipping at 67° towards the northwest. Image made as part of the Mid-Atlantic Geo-Image Collection (M.A.G.I.C.).
