Possible Mars walled town compounds spotted in a crater 65 miles north west of Luzin Crater. > NASA text: Tall, narrow ridges snake between mesas and buttes. Where one such ridge crosses a flat-topped mesa (in the lower center of the image), the mesa surface is split into two surfaces of different heights, like a split-level house. This suggests that the ridges, like the mesas and buttes, are erosional remnants of a former surface that has since been mostly stripped away. Some of the buttes appear to be layered. Sand dunes have formed in the loose material left surrounding the buttes, mesas, and ridges. > Latitude: 28.1757 Longitude: 27.9887 Orbit Number: 5554 Captured: 2003-03-16 12:27 Posted to Web: Fri, 2003-04-11 Instrument: VIS Image Width: 1024 pixels (19 km) Image Height: 3648 pixels (67 km)
