Angular unconformity north of Telheiro Beach, Algarve, Portugal. Rock layers that break the sedimentary sequence and contact at noticeably different angles are referred to as an angular unconformity. New Red Sandstones (Triassic Grés de Silves Formation, including a prominent white bed), lie unconformably upon Upper Carboniferous schists and metagreywackes (Brejeira Formation).
