This painting was created by artist Heinrich C. Berann under direction from Bruce Heezen and Marie Tharp, based on their groundbreaking bathymetric profiles across the world's ocean basins. This image by Berann was probably completed in 1977, and Heezen and Tharp published their final version (with labels, etc.) the following year, 1978.
