Banded iron formation. The greyish color is the iron oxide mineral, hematite, the red is the sedimentary rock, chert (red=jasper), and the gold is tiger's eye. Sample is 26 cm across at its widest point, and was contributed by Dr. Jay Kaufman of University of Maryland.
