The 1959 magnitude-7.5 rupture of the Hebgen Lake Fault was a local disaster. Normal motion on the fault exposed fresh portions of the scarp on the north shore of Hebgen Lake (footwall is Madison Limestone), where this sample of fault breccia was collected.
