This outcrop is a nice case study of how different lithologies have different responses to stress. Here is a sandstone layer within the mudrock-dominated Miette Group, cropping out at the intersection of the Icefields Parkway and the Trans Canada Highway. The sandstone (now quartzite) has been boudinaged and extended, and the mudrock (now slate) wraps around these boudins. Bedding and cleavage are parallel at this outcrop: Both are oriented 130°/80° (right-hand rule). Image capture by Aaron M. Barth
