Mission Log: Sol 1805 | The High Ground Instrument: Navigation Camera (Navcam) Location: Crest of the Northern Rim, overlooking "Lac de Charmes" Field Notes: Surveying the Rim This wide-angle view captures the scale of our current ascent. In the foreground, we see the rover's own "shoulders"—the Remote Sensing Mast and parts of the deck—reminding us that we are an artificial visitor in a very ancient landscape. The Horizon: We are looking toward the rugged hills that form the boundary of Jezero Crater. The atmosphere is remarkably clear today, showing the layered slopes in the distance. These hills are the remains of the crater's original wall, uplifted during the impact. The Trail: The ground is littered with "float"—rocks that have tumbled down from higher elevations. The tracks we leave behind (visible in the lower right) are the only recent changes to this surface in millions of years. Terrain Check: The rover is currently tilted slightly, navigating a field of small, dark pebbles and lighter bedrock. This is "slow-go" territory to ensure the wheels don't catch on the sharper fragments. [ Sorry, awkward images = pretty ugly stitching here :/ ] NASA JPL-Caltech
