On old route 55 in the valley of the Lost River, there lies an abandoned limestone quarry that is used by the highway department as a dumping ground for crushed stone and dirt. The walls of the quarry show deformed limestones, probably of the Tonoloway Formation. One slab, imaged here, displays mud cracks that have undergone layer-parallel shortening. Watch for appearances by Mr. E. coli and the cm-scale pencil.
