This is brecciated quartzite in the Cambrian Antietam formation of the Chilhowwe group in the Blue Ridge Province of Virginia. The Antietam Formation caps the transgressive clastic sequence of the Chilhowwe group and is interpreted as representing a beach/barrier environment. Also check out a few gigapans I made of the same outcrop under less desirable lighting conditions last spring. https://viewer.gigamacro.com/view/uTyaC5xZx9lq3xTD https://viewer.gigamacro.com/view/MeeOzVKf2P3NZFm4 https://viewer.gigamacro.com/view/oLBY9QIMcxMnohF6
