Martinsburg Formation exposed at Staunton, Virginia. Outcrop of the late-Ordovician-aged Martinsburg Formation (turbidites/flysch) shed off the Taconian Orogen to the east into the adjacent deep marine basin. The strata were later tilted and cleaved during Alleghanian mountain-building.
