The Massanutten sandstone is a Silurian-aged passive margin deposit that is correlative to the Tuscarora Formation of the western Valley & Ridge province. A bed is exposed here in a subvertical orientation along the Woodstock Tower Road, near its summit. Perspective is looking across strike to the west-northwest. Trace fossils (Arthrophycus?) may be observed in many orientations within the bedding plane; In this version of the GigaPan, those traces have been highlighted with blue lines. It can (should) be compared with the non-annotated version, here: https://viewer.gigamacro.com/view/jGzFgZGVGmdEK8yS I recommend the comparative viewer experience: http://www.gigamacro.com/gigamacro_viewer/gigamacro_comparative_viewer.php?view_mode=double&image1_source=gigapan&image1_id=124277&image1_url=&image1_image_width_mm=&image2_source=gigapan&image2_id=124296&image2_url=&image2_image_width_mm= Structural orientation (right-hand rule) of bedding: 037°, 84° Image made as part of the Mid-Atlantic Geo-Image Collection (M.A.G.I.C.)
