Collected at roadcut through serpentinite just NW of the Bagby Recreation area, California, at Lake McClure (Lat. 37.613656, Long. -120.139371). The serpentinite in the roadcut is part of the Calaveras Complex, a mix of marine sedimentary rocks deposited during the Devonian and then mixed and folded during subduction in the Mesozoic, when they were accreted onto the North American continent. There is a great field guide for this part of California ( http://www.geologictrips.com/sn/sntwmb.pdf ). Here are links to the USGS map data : https://mrdata.usgs.gov/geology/state/map-us.html . Select the Peridotite unit for details.
