Crater Lake, which was formed by the eruption of a volcano, stands in the Crater Lake National Park in Klamath County, Oregon. The lake is approximately six miles in diameter, and 1,994 feet (594M) deep. It is considered the purest water in the U.S. The lake was caused by the collapse of a volcano about 7,500 years ago. A 20-foot print of this photo is on permanent display in the Baker Center at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California. Thas photo was taken on June 30, 2016 by Brian P. Lawler, using a Canon 5D Mark III camera and a 100-400 mm lens. The photo was made using a GigaPan head to take 714 individual images that were later stitched into a single 18GB image of the lake.
