'Boulder Strewn Plain in Northern Utopia Planitia' The landscape here in the northern plains is deceptively stark; a vast, boulder-strewn expanse largely devoid of prominent landmarks. However, the distribution of these rocks tells a story of ancient violence hidden by time. The surface is densely carpeted in debris, with boulder sizes varying from sub-meter rocks to massive blocks several meters wide. Most striking are the "boulder blotches"—circular concentrations of large rocks often centered around faint, ghostly ridges. These are the "skeletons" of ancient impact craters, long since filled and eroded until only their excavated debris remains to mark the site of the strike.
