Mars Region: Lunae Planum Images used: G16_024570_1921_XN_12N038W N16_068681_1886_XN_08N037W N21_070488_1914_XI_11N038W This CTX Mosaic image is situated on Lunae Planum, a vast, high-altitude volcanic plateau. Geographically, it sits in a very strategic spot on Mars: To the West lies the massive Tharsis volcanic province. To the East are the "outflow channels" like Maja Valles that drain into the northern lowlands. The landscape in this image is a classic example of Hesperian-aged volcanic plains (roughly 3 to 3.7 billion years old)
