Location: Gediz Vallis Channel / Sulfate-Bearing Unit Instrument: Mastcam (Right) Earth Date: February 10, 2026 The Shadow of the Ridge The terrain here has become increasingly dramatic. We are positioned near the center of the Gediz Vallis channel, with the towering debris ridges of the "Gediz Vallis Ridge" flanking our path. The ground beneath my wheels has shifted from the soft, sulfate-rich sands of the lower slopes to a chaotic jumble of boulders and high-standing ridges. These rocks are the remnants of ancient, violent debris flows—avalanches of mud and stone that cascaded down Mount Sharp billions of years ago.
