LIDAR imagery provided by Dan Doctor, USGS Reston. This map view shows fine-scale topographic variation along the western Blue Ridge front, where the Blue Ridge geologic / physiographic province meets the easternmost Valley & Ridge province (Shenandoah Valley). The most striking feature is the beautiful expression of folding within the quartz-rich Weverton Formation. Also distinctive are the numerous water gaps.
